The Monday Musts #1

I made a calendar to schedule blog posts a long time ago and never implemented it. I’m really going to start trying as of today. I want to blog at least 5 days per week and start doing more than just reviews and the occasional tags. I also want to try to do more discussions, guest posts, interviews, etc. so if you are interested in any of the aforementioned feel free to email me at [email protected]!

As part of my new schedules, I will start doing The Monday Musts, which I recently discovered thanks to Lila at The Bookkeeper’s Secret. The Monday Musts is a weekly meme hosted by Jessica at Lovin’ Los Libros in which we talk about our must reads, must listens, and must sees of the week!

Must Read
RS McCoy emailed me and asked me to review her novel, The Killing Jar, which comes out tomorrow, June 28th! To be honest, you never know what you’re going to get when indie authors ask you to review but I’m still a fairly new blogger so it’s not like Scholastic is sending me large packages daily, and the premise sounded pretty interesting. (Check out my cover reveal post for the full synopsis.)

Well, I’m glad I accepted because this book is actually AMAZING! I love McCoy’s writing style. It’s entertaining and descriptive, but it’s also to the point (if that makes any sense). I’m already in love with many of the characters and the story is just really riveting. I can’t say enough good things about it. So check it out on Goodreads, pre-order it on Amazon, etc. It’s REALLY good, and I hope I get invited to read and review more of her novels.

Must Listen
It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Hamilton and the Hamilton cast. I keep very close tabs on everything they are doing, both on and off the stage. Last week, Daveed Diggs, who plays the brilliant and tactical Marquis de Lafayette and the sassy, somewhat villainous Thomas Jefferson, released an EP with his rap group Clipping. It’s a solid record all around… I mean, it’s Daveed, did you expect less? My personal favorite is Shooter. I love the word association game he’s doing. Favorite line:

“Caught his ass on demand–
Netflix.”

Must See
Jesse Williams, actor and Black Lives Matter activist, blew me away with his amazing speech about racism, social justice, and cultural appropriation at the BET Awards last night when he accepted the Humanitarian Award. Watch the full speech below:
